Automotive Repair
Operating Shops in Changing Times: Preparing for Tomorrow
The increasing complexity of vehicle repair is requiring dramatically more sophisticated diagnostic equipment and specialized training for technicans. This is compounded by burgeoning inventory or very careful inventory control. Frequently, jobs can't be completed in one day as necessary parts are shipped in one or several days. You can't afford to tie up a rack, so it takes time to move that vehicle, now disabled, off the rack and store it.
Storing vehicles required a secure yard and substantial insurance coverage. When the ordered parts arrive, oh yeah where were we with this job. It takes time to move the vehicle back into a work area and pick-up the repair project where it was left one or several days ago. This time must be considered in the billing and management or it adversely affects profit on that job and the overall shop operation.
Some of your employees are great. They have been with you for years. You'd be hard pressed to have come this far without them.
How many more years can they or will they want to work?
How can you inspire them to stay with you?
How can you offer them benefits so they can retire when it's time?
How can you replace them and demonstrate to the younger techs that they have a future with you?
These are questions that will influence whether you can market and sell your business when it's time for you to stop. We can help you address and find these answers.
